AvalonCirrus Real Time Processing Systems (Cirrus), Australia’s leading mission training system developer, has announced the award of a contract for the supply to Navy of additional TACEW systems and associated engineering services.

The Tactical Electronic Warfare (TACEW) training system has been developed by Cirrus in collaboration with RAN Maritime Intelligence and Information Warfare School (MIIWS) and Submarine Training Systems Centre (STSC) instructors to provide end to end simulation of the electromagnetic (EM) battle-space and the operation of EW ship systems within a tactically immersive synthetic environment.

Cirrus Managing Director Peter Freed stated “The TACEW System has been used successfully since 2019 for providing training of the RAN’s EW personnel from its major fleet units (MFU’s) and more recently the RAN’s submarines. I am very pleased to announce that Cirrus will extend the existing TACEW installation at the Collins Submarine Multi-Mission Tactical Trainer (SMMTT) facility at the STSC (HMAS Stirling in WA). This involves extending the existing SMMTT installation from a single EW console to a dual EW console; providing additional dual EW console TACEW installations into the SMMTT systems not previously addressed; supplying further enhancements to the EW functionality; and ongoing engineering support services. This will enable the RAN’s submariners to ‘train the way they fight’ with EW sensor operation fully integrated into the Collins command team training environment.”
